In February 2008, the board began the process of forming a Neighborhood Watch in order to improve the safety and security of our neighborhood. Over 20 homeowners have indicated an interest in participating in the program by sending an e-mail to Cathie Bucek at watch@mysevenbridges.com.

Participation is key to a successful Neighborhood Watch. It is not too late! If you are interested in joining the Seven Bridges Neighborhood Watch please attend the Kick-off meeting to be held Thursday, April 17, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. in the training room at the Woodridge Police Department located at One Plaza Drive, Woodridge, IL 60517.

The purpose of this meeting is to train watch participants, map out the neighborhood and develop watch assignments. Officer Lindblom, the Woodridge Police Community Liaison will provide all materials. Subsequent to the meeting, Neighborhood Watch signs will be posted. The placement of Neighborhood Watch signs, a known deterrent to crime is based on the coverage across the subdivision. The more participants we have the more successful our Neighborhood Watch!

Police Arrest 5 Men in Recent Parking Lot Robberies—Parking Lot Safety Tips

The Bolingbrook Police arrested five men after an investigation into three armed robberies that occurred Feb. 22 and 29. In each case, a man or men entered vehicles in retail parking lots and demanded money at gunpoint.

Two of the incidents occurred on Boughton Rd. in the shopping center on the NE corner of Boughton Rd. and Janes Ave., while the third took place on Weber Rd. in Romeoville. The victims in two incidents were men and the third was a woman.

In all three incidents the suspects entered the back seat of the vehicle while the victims were sitting in their unlocked cars, talking on cell phones. In two out of three of the incidents the victims were held at gunpoint, while required to drive to ATMs and withdraw cash. The third victim fled the vehicle and the suspects escaped. While it appears that this string of crimes has been solved, incidents like these in our own backyard, bring to mind the issue of safety in parking lots. The following tips from personal safety experts may be helpful for us, and our driving age children to review:
· Park in a well lit area
· Be prepared from the time you leave the store, have your keys in hand
· Do not talk on cell phone or have your iPod’s buds in your ears
· Be aware of your surroundings and remember where you parked
· Look into your car, passenger side floor, backseat
· Quickly put your packages in your car, get in and LOCK your doors
· As soon as you get in your car, LOCK the doors and LEAVE
· Do not sit in the parking lot talking on cell phone, putting on make-up, eating, etc.
· If you see a suspicious person or vehicle in the parking lot or if you feel you’re being followed return to the store, restaurant etc. and seek assistance

Neighborhood Watch

To improve the safety and security of our neighborhood, the board has investigated the feasibility of forming a Neighborhood Watch program.

Neighborhood Watch is a community crime prevention program with the objectives of reducing crime and/or the opportunity for crime. The program is designed to supplement police activities by providing extra eyes, ears, and awareness of unusual activity such as strange cars or persons in the neighborhood. Neighborhood Watch is people looking out for people and is considered a major deterrent against crime.

The Woodridge Neighborhood Watch program requires nothing more than an interested and motivated group of homeowners. Attendance at an initial meeting with the Woodridge Police community liaison is required for all participating neighbors. The Police department provides training, maps out the neighborhood and assists with watch assignments, provides materials and posts neighborhood watch signs, all free of charge.

If you are interested in participating in the Neighborhood Watch please contact Cathie Bucek at watch@mysevenbridges.com.

Community Update: Meadow Glens Elementary

(Information from Meadows Glens Elementary)

Dear Parents,
We are in the process of planning for the 2008-09 school year at Meadow Glens Elementary. In particular, we need to know how many kindergarten-age children plan to enroll next fall. If you haven’t already done so, please contact our school office, (630)420-3200, if you are planning to send your child to kindergarten at Meadow Glens this coming fall. If you do not have a prospective kindergartner, you could do us a great service by passing this information to a neighbor with no children presently at Meadow Glens, but who may have a kindergarten-age child (5 years old by September 1, 2008). This information will be used to determine our mailings for Kindergarten Round-Up and plan for staffing needs. Thank you very much for your assistance!

I appreciate any/all help with this!

Thanks,
Chuck
